Outdoor furniture and spaces from Småland
With roots in the innovative region of Småland, Soma Design is an ambitious and design driven company. As we approached this project we set out to make sure that the new web page would reflect this love for design and their strong connection to the region.
During our first meetings with Soma, we identified three priority areas: brand and design, editorial experience, and modern architecture.
Since Soma is a design driven company we wanted that to shine through in the look of the site. At the same time images are an integral part of the experience and we needed to keep the rest of the visuals non intrusive. After exploring severals directions we choose one that is minimal, with focus on typography and small delightful details sprinkled through out the design.
As typography became an even more important part of the brand than previous, we expanded the scope of the project and delved in to a discovery phase selecting a new typeface. In the end we opted for Everett, a font that works great as body type but that also shows distinct geometrical features when used in larger sizes. We also needed to tweak and reduce the color palette to keep the design consistent and impactful.
Secondly, we were tasked to improve the content handling for editors, making it easy to administer complex product information in a single location. We ended up implementing the basic features of a PIM in Dato, with the ability to create and edit complex attributes and relations normally only found in fully fledged PIM systems. With Dato in place, the platform is also prepared to integrate with a more extensive PIM if it’s needed in the future.
Finally, we set out to build a state of the art headless front-end, using some of the very best features in our tech stack, such as SSG (Static Site Generation), Streaming and much more. With Dato as CMS/DXP paired with our super modern tech stack, our solution offers a world class editorial experience as well as exceptional front-end performance.
It was great to see how knowledgeable Camilla and the team were in visual design. This allowed us to include them in detailed design decisions and quickly make joint choices together.
